Being stuck at home means spring cleaning, and ultimately a much-needed closet clean out. In preparation for moving to London, I need to scale down my wardrobe (a lot), but I’m also still investing in a couple of key pieces that every closet should have. My rule of thumb: for every 10 pieces I decide to sell or donate, I can invest in a new piece. Looking back at what I’ve reached for in my closet most often this year, it comes down to 5 items I think every woman needs.

NEUTRAL DENIM
One of my favorite Spring trends are neutral washed, or khaki, denim. The pair I’m wearing is from MM LaFleur, and I have been wearing them at home they’re so comfortable. The best part? The pant length is actually adjustable with a couple of snaps down at the hem, making it an easy buy from someone who is petite or averaged height. If you’re over 5’10, this particular pair can only be worn as a culotte, but I like them that way 🙂

A PLAID BLAZER
I love the look of a tailored blazer. And, as far as I’m concerned, plaid is a neutral. The one I’m wearing is currently sold out, but I’ve linked to a few that have what I’m typically looking for: double breasted, a bit longer than a classic blazer, and a pattern that leans toward a “Glen plaid”.

THE PERFECT BLACK TANK
Standing under just 5’11, finding body suits that fit is a chore, so I usually stick to tanks. I also happen to have a large chest, so I’m constantly on the hunt for options that aren’t too low. The one I’m wearing is from Aritzia, who I think has one of the best selections in the game, but below are a few others that you can wear a bra under and look good with our without a blazer.

BLACK MIDI HEELS
Because I’m usually walking to work, I like to find heels that aren’t too high and can last the 30-minute commute without killing my feet. The pair I’m wearing are super affordable from Chinese Laundry. The ankle strap make them an even better selection for those of us to like to take our shoes out for a stroll.

GOLD LAYERING NECKLACE
Dainty gold pieces are an easy way to elevate any look, and the best part… the don’t take up a ton of room in your closet ;). Over the last few days I have come to terms with just how much jewelry I don’t wear, and am looking to pare down my collection to better quality pieces, like the Christina Greene necklace I’m wearing.
