South Beach is typically known as the place to hang out in Miami when you’re on vacation, and for good reason. But, while South Beach is super fun, if you’re looking to escape for a little bit, I recommend heading out to the Wynwood Art District. Everywhere you turn there is a piece of art on old industrial buildings that were once forgotten about. I decided to head out there and just roam around with my camera, but if you’re looking for something a little more organized head over on the second Saturday of every month where there is something called the Wynwood Art Walk. They have a ton of food trucks who participate and there’s often tons of free booze; all in the name of supporting some pretty cool artists. It sounds like so much fun, I wish I could have gone.
If you decide to go during the day, make sure to stop in for a cup of joe or an espresso at Panther Coffee (and you’d be doing yourself a favor if you grabbed a coconut chocolate chip cookie as well). Trust me, it’s mind-blowingly delicious. Nightlife is limited but Wynwood Kitchen & Bar is always fun, and Gramps is a great local place to hang out with a good beer selection as well.
Like I said, I love South Beach, but it’s always great to get out of the tourist traps and experience something that is an equally as cool in Miami, and the Wynwood Walls deliver.
