Long weekends call for getting out of the city, amiright?! Living in Boston, Nantucket, the Cape, and Portland are all typical weekend escapes, but one that I’m particularly fond of is the Catskills. My dad used to have a camp up in the finger lakes in upstate NY, and while this drive is significantly shorter, the Catskills has loads to offer in the way of hiking, picturesque diners, and a stylish escape in the form of Scribner’s Lodge. When their team invited me up for the stay, I jumped at the opportunity. Mornings were spent either hiking, or lounging by the pool. Afternoons were filled with tasty food, exploring their gardens on the property. And evenings were sweet with s’mores by the fire, more tasty food, and curled up in bed with Netflix by 9PM. Wild, I know!
Whens staying at Scribner’s a few things you should know: 1) Bring your bathing suit – if the weather calls for it. They have a heated pool and cozy cabanas perfect for alternating between lounging and taking a dip. 2) Their property is pup friendly! We got to bring a furry plus one with us on this trip. She was met with a care package of treats, a dog toy, and loved how comfy the beds were almost as much as we did. 3) You have to eat at their restaurant. Prospect is sophisticated food in an approachable environment. Perfect for us city dwellers who love good food without all the fuss. And, 4) There are plenty of spots to heat up – whether it’s by the bonfire making s’mores or in their circular sauna. Trips in the Fall and Winter won’t disappoint.
Part of the fun of being up in the Catskills is exploring a bit! A few spots to consider visiting if you’re staying at Scribner’s, I’ve listed below.
- Kaaterskill Falls – 14 mins west (pictured below)
- Sam’s Point Preserve – 1h 26 mins south
- Phoenicia Diner – 23 mins south (pictured below)

Regardless of whether you’re looking to curl up with a good book, or give your outdoorsy side some time to shine, a trip to the Catskills is a must! I can’t wait to get back here sooner than later.
